Secure Authentication and Encryption with Kobil and
WinMagic Solutions

SecureDoc, the solution for disk encryption and pre-boot authentication from the
Canadian vendor WinMagic, with the security solution Kobil mIDentity from the
German vendor Kobil Systems guarantees highly secure protection of confidential
data as user authentication and full disk encryption is accomplished even before
the operating system is booted. Kobil mIDentity improves security through

SecureDoc Disk Encryption software protects sensitive and confidential data by
encryption the complete hard disk of a laptop or computer with an AES-256-Bit
algorithm. It also enables user authentication before booting the computer. The
integration of the smart card reader Kobil mIDentity improves security through
two-factor-authentication: For access to the system, users have to have the card
reader (with integrated Smart Card) and need to know the PIN. For registration,
the mIDentity device has to be connected to the USB-interface of the computer
and the password must be entered. In case the user leaves his work place, he
simply takes his mIDentity out of the computer, thus, making it inaccessible for
unauthorised persons. In contrast to other hard disk encryption software,
SecureDoc interacts with mIDentity already when the computer is booting, thus,
protecting confidential data at any time as there is no unencrypted area,
through which an intruder could get onto the computer.
Besides the SecureDoc user version, WinMagic offers SecureDoc Enterprise Server,
a management tool for user administration and central deployment. In contrast to
a common master password architecture, the integrity of the computers are
guaranteed enterprise-wide with the SecureDoc Enterprise Server. Either MS SQL
or MS Access can serve as a backend database.
