SecureDoc, support for Seagate® Hardware FDE and Intel® Anti-Theft Technology

Mobile Data Protection

What should your IT staff do when your company laptop goes missing or gets stolen?

Organizations face many challenges in protecting their confidential data and business assets (Desktops/Laptops) from theft and unauthorized access. According to the 2008 Ponemon Cost of a Data Breach Studies, compromised customer records in the U.S. costs a company $202 per record while in the U.K. the cost is £60 per record. The FBI reported more then 1 million laptops were stolen each year in the United States, with more than 98% of laptops never being recovered.

There are many unknown questions that organizations should address when laptops with sensitive information go missing or are stolen, including:

  • Is the hard drive on the missing or stolen laptop encrypted?
  • Is it possible to disable the laptop remotely, making it inoperable?
  • If the laptop is recovered, is it possible to restore the system to its pre-theft state?

SecureDoc leverages the best of Intel® Anti-Theft Technology (Intel® AT) and Seagate Secure technologies under one enterprise management console. WinMagic® delivers a superior notebook security solution that brings together the combined benefits of Intel AT, Seagate Secure and SecureDoc. SecureDoc offers one server management console that handles data-at-rest encryption in a heterogeneous fashion including notebooks embedded with Intel AT.

  • WinMagic provides an unyielding data protection solution that protects endpoint devices, removable media, sensitive files, applications, residual information (swap files, temp files, printer spooling files, hibernation files), and the operating system from unauthorized access.
  • Through Encrypted Data Access Disable, it is possible to disable user access to the data in a non-destructive manner from SecureDoc Enterprise Server (SES). Even if the user (for example, a terminated employee) still has valid credentials and moves the drive to another machine, the user will not be able to access the data.
  • With SecureDoc, system administrators can restore the users’ access to data remotely. It is a simple and inexpensive way to restore a notebook or PC to full functionality. Encryption Data Disable is a recoverable alternative to remote crypto erase since its outcome is irreversible.
By working together, WinMagic and Intel create a strong anti-theft protection solution for lost or stolen laptops. There are three options available:
  • SecureDoc Express Edition bundled with Crypto Erase, Seagate Secure Drive Activation, full disk encryption, pre-boot authentication – password, and SecureDoc management console support.
  • SecureDoc Business Edition bundled with removable media encryption/ media viewer, Crypto Erase, Seagate Secure Drive Activation, full-disk encryption, pre-boot authentication – password, and SecureDoc management console support.
  • SecureDoc Enterprise Edition bundled with port control, dynamic key provisioning, removable media encryption/media viewer, removable media only configuration, Crypto Erase, Seagate Secure Drive Activation, full-disk encryption, pre-boot authentication – Token/smart card and password, and SecureDoc management console support.
